Neighbors and relatives say 32-year-old Evan Grabelsky was murdered while home alone in the Elliot Street house in Merrick he shares with his parents.
Evan Grabelsky was a special education teaching assistant at Great Neck North High School and a director at the Bellmore-based Camp Iconic. He also has a large social media family and was active in the WW (formerly Weight Watchers) community.
The Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad reported the death of a then unidentified male victim that occurred on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 11:44 P.M. in Merrick.
According to Detectives, police responded to an Aided call for a stabbing victim found inside an Elliot Street home. Upon arrival, it was determined that the man was not breathing and a Police Medic later pronounced him deceased at the scene. The man was later identified as Evan Grabelsky.
Police say it was not a random attack, and that the attacker and victim knew each other.
There had been an extensive struggle, and the victim had defensive wounds to his hands and arms.
"We are conducting a very complex, intense investigation," Nassau County Police Det. Lt. Richard LeBrun said. "We're checking video, we're interviewing neighbors, we're going into backyards, front yards, neighbors residences, neighbor's properties."No information has been released about the suspect, and no weapon was recovered.
