<div><p>Jacky Edwards from Somerset, England knew she wanted to have a baby with her husband, but doctors told her there was no chance. At 47, after having an emergency hysterectomy years earlier, <a href="https://www.shared.com/their-pregnancy-announcement-captures-the-joy-and-pain-of-ivf-2268028935/">IVF</a> clinics refused to even meet with Jacky. She knew how desperate her mother was to have a child, and volunteered to be a surrogate for her and Paul, hoping it would "bring some happiness" to her mother to make up for her first husband's death.</p><p>"My eyes just welled up with tears," Jacky told the <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4584222/Woman-gives-birth-BROTHER-surrogate.html">Daily Mail</a>, "The fact that she was willing to do this for me and Paul, it stopped my heart completely." The family realizes their situation sounds like something from a bad daytime show ("I Gave Birth To My Own Brother") but it meant everything to Jacky and Paul.</p><p>Family surrogates aren't unheard of, but they're <a href="https://www.shared.com/after-9-miscarriages-this-womans-sister-offered-to-be-her-surrogate/">very rare</a>. To make up for Katherine's commitment, Paul and Jacky paid her £1,000 (about $1,300) to help cover her costs. While the <a href="https://www.shared.com/after-not-being-able-to-conceive-how-this-couple-grew-their-family-will-leave-you-shocked-2/">confusing laws</a> about surrogacy mean that the family has to deal with lots of paperwork, they're just happy everything has worked out well.</p><p>"It all fell into place. We are totally over the moon with him. We look at him and pinch ourselves because it seemed impossible that Paul and I would ever be able to have a baby together," says Jacky.</p><p>Meanwhile, Katherine was just glad to be done.
