At age 5 Ari Schultz has had a tougher life than most adults ever will. Before he was born doctors were already working to repair his heart, which only had 2 chambers.

Over the years he's been through surgeries and treatments and finally a grueling 211 day wait for a new heart.

Last week, Ari's long wait finally ended. His parents, Mike and Erica, found out he would be getting a transplant that night. To remember the moment, Mike taped himself breaking the good news to Ari in this heartwarming video.

<amp-youtube height="9" width="16" layout="responsive" data-videoid="1FjqFt3j2Oo"></amp-youtube>

While Ari's life after surgery won't be easy either, this is the best news his family has received in a long time, and they're still savoring the moment they heard it.

I'm sure years from now Mike and Erica will look back on Ari's cute reaction - asking if they'll find a "good spot" for his new heart - and remember how relieved they felt.

On their YouTube account, the couple thanked the donor and their family and urged others to "please #DonateLife."

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/heart-defect-ari-transplant_20170309152238548_7494314_ver1-0_640_360.jpg" srcset="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/heart-defect-ari-transplant_20170309152238548_7494314_ver1-0_640_360_GH_content_550px.jpg 550w" sizes="89vw" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>

Living with a donated heart brings its own challenges. Ari has to be very careful not to upset it, plus he'll need to take medication, watch what he eats and even avoid contact sports for the rest of his life.

Still, the most important thing is he's recovered and can live a (mostly) normal life.

You can follow Ari's recovery on his parents' blog, Echo of Hope.
