I have often dreamed about what my engagement ring might look like. I want something classic, but also something that fits my personality. Usually, I see a silver band with a beautiful diamond in the middle.
But, as with anything else in Hollywood, celebrities always like to take things a little bit farther. I can't really say I blame them, though. Having resources at your disposal means you can have fun and go all out, especially with jewelry.
These celebrities decided to stray from the norm when it came to their engagement rings, and I have to say, I really like it!
1. Emma Slater
Emma Slater and her fellow Dancing With The Stars cast mate, Sasha Farber, got engaged on stage, but her ring isn't what you'd normally expect to see. Slater had given her sister strict instructions on any potential engagement rings: it had to be a wine color halo-set pink sapphire. Mission accomplished!
2. Johanna Braddy
The Quantico actress got engaged to her UnREAL co-star Freddie Stroma in 2016. Her oval sapphire set in a rectangular halo surrounded by diamonds is absolutely stunning!
3. Mary-Kate Olsen
The Olsen sisters have always been a little eccentric, and Mary-Kate made sure to show her tastes when it came to her engagement ring. The vintage Cartier diamond and sapphire stunner is definitely unique and absolutely fits her style.
4. Eva Longoria
Talk about getting the luxury treatment! After her fiancee, TV executive Antonio Baston, proposed with this giant ruby and diamond ring, Longoria was treated to a pair of matching ruby and diamond earrings!
5. Jenny McCarthy
McCarthy was presented with a yellow sapphire engagement ring from New Kids On The Block heartthrob Donnie Wahlberg. It may seem too big to lose, but that doesn't mean McCarthy didn't almost do it.
"It's a little hard to get romantic with diamonds on your hand!" she said. "I removed it and put it on the room service table, and they came and turned down the room and the ring was gone."
Don't worry, though. She found it.
6. Rebecca Romijn
Romijn married Jerry O'Connell in 2007 after he proposed with a 6-carat yellow diamond ring. But the actress decided to make some changes.
"Since I had to get my ring resized when I was pregnant, I decided to change my setting with the help of my friend Lorraine Schwartz," Romijn told InStyle. "There's something sexy about a diamond dangling from your finger."
7. Elizabeth Hurley
Elizabeth Hurley got engaged to cricket player Shane Warne in 2011 and was given a 9-carat blue sapphire set in platinum. The relationship fell apart after a few years, and while on I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here, Warne revealed that Hurley kept the ring.
"It's a top notch blue sapphire one," he said. "She didn't give it back. You've got me thinking, I might ask for it back. I am going to ask for that ring back."
8. Reese Witherspoon
Witherspoon's marriage to Toth seems pretty low-key, but her ring certainly is not. Toth spent $250,000 on this rare Ashoka-cut diamond, set on a pave diamond and platinum band. There are also 62 displayed facets and rounded corners for extra sparkle. The ring was custom designed by William Goldberg Diamond Corporation.
9. Carrie Underwood
The country singer's hockey-playing husband certainly thought outside the box when it came to her ring. He presented her with a giant yellow diamond ring, designed my Jonathon Arndt. The yellow diamond itself is 5 carats, while the entire ring is a total of 12 carats.
10. Scarlett Johansson
Johansson and French journalist Romain Dauriac got engaged in 2013, after he presented her with a vintage rectangular ring covered in diamonds, which surrounded three other round diamonds. The marriage didn't last, and after three years the couple split up. Johansson is now dating Saturday Night Live cast member Colin Jost, who reportedly "wants to marry" the Avengers star.
11. Ashlee Simpson
When the younger Simpson sister got engaged to Evan Ross, Diana Ross's son, she was given a stunning 5-carat marquise-cut diamond with rubies, accompanied by 140 small white diamonds. The designer, Neil Lane, also designed Jessica Simpson's ring.
"A Vintage inspiration with a contemporary feel using calibrated cut rubies gave that vibrant Art Deco feel," Lane said of Ashlee's ring. "The navette shape evoked the romance (of the) Edwardian Era."
Whatever that means.
12. Olivia Wilde
Wilde and Sudeikis got engaged in 2013, and he gave the House actress a stunning diamond ring surrounded by an emerald halo and set in gold. The inspiration behind the emeralds? He wanted it to match her eyes. CUTE!
13. Kelly Osbourne
Even though the engagement between Osbourne and her fiancee, Matthew Mosshart, fell apart, the story behind her ring, a solitary diamond surrounded by platinum, is pretty cute.
"I used to hold my finger up to [my dad's] ear when I was little and say, "˜I want a ring like that.' Now I have one!" she said.
