Truck Sends Worker Flying In A Dramatic Collision Caught On Video

ABC

Do you know how tall your car is? It's so important to know the dimensions of your vehicle, especially when you're driving something as large as a transport truck.

The signs above roads aren't there for decoration, but even if there are no signs, a driver is responsible for paying attention too all hazards - including those above the road.

On Feb. 25, Andrew Wolf caught a near tragedy on his dashboard cam. Driving along Highway 90 in Texas, Wolf was trailing an oversized truck as it crossed an intersection. A construction crew was working on the overhead traffic lights. You can see pylons near the road and a man in a construction bucket suspended over the street.

As the truck crosses under the bucket, it becomes clear that it is too tall. It strikes the bottom, flipping the worker upside down and plummeting him to the street below.

Wolf said he always has his dash cam running, but he's never seen anything like this before.

"This is the most epic and horrific thing I've seen," he said.

Luckily the man was wearing his helmet and was properly strapped in with a safety harness. It caught him before he hit the ground. Wolf says he was left dangling for about half a minute before his crew lowered him to the ground.

"I think he used up all his luck that day, but it was just amazing that he literally walked away from that impact," Wolf said.

The responsibility is on the driver to know what his vehicle can clear and what it can't, but the construction crew owns its share of the blame.

"You can see they ignored some safety rules. The road wasn't blocked off. The truck wasn't protecting anybody, but he was smart enough to put on a harness and helmet," Wolf said.

"That's what saved his life."

The truck stopped after the collision and 911 was called. It's unlikely any investigations or charges will follow.
