Puppy mills are a disgusting practice that unfortunately still exist. These poor dogs are abused and starved, all to make a quick buck.
For Coconut, her treatment was so bad it almost lead to her death.
Coconut was rescued from a puppy mill in 2013, along with 150 other dogs by the ASPCA. When rescuers came to save her, Coconut was terrified of human touch. She had never experienced kindness from the hand of a human.
The poor pup needed months of rehabilitation in order to learn how to interact with humans. She had fear and anxiety, and the ASPCA says it's one of the most severe cases they have ever seen.
If Coconut was unable to open up to humans, she would have to be put down.
But Coconuts' trainer was not about to give up on her. The two worked together tirelessly and now the rescued pup is extremely affectionate and happy to see anyone she meets!
Take a look at Coconut's transformation in this video from the ASPCA. It's sure to put a smile on your face!
