Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow has stolen the hearts of many Americans with his generosity, compassion, and dedication to this faith.
But when it comes to his own heart, it belongs to South Africa's sweetheart and former Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.
The pair reportedly met after the Heisman trophy winner made a drastic career change and joined Minor League Baseball in 2016 as an outfielder for the New York Mets. At the time, Nel-Peters was also living in New York City.
It's unclear when the couple started dating, but in 2017, Tebow told People magazine that he was looking for the right person, but he "just can't seem to find anyone."
"I don't want to be single; I'm ready to settle down and start a family. I want to have kids. I have so many things I want. No one will be happier than me when I finally find the right person," he said. "I'm just looking for someone who has a good heart," he added at the time. "They have to be kind, and they have to care about people who can't do anything for them in return."
Lucky for Tebow, it seems like Nel-Peters came into his life shortly after, and they're now ready to settle down. This week, the athlete asked Nel-Peters to marry him, and of course, she said yes.
"Thank you for saying YES and making me the happiest man in the world," Tebow wrote in the caption of an Instagram post announcing their engagement. "You're the love of my life, and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you."
According to People, Tebow proposed to his beauty queen girlfriend at sunset on his family's farm in Florida. Tebow planned every single detail, including a custom bench engraved with the date they first met and an arbor.
After a short stroll and a few minutes of chit-chat, the 31-year-old got down on one knee, declared his love for Nel-Peters, and asked her to marry him with a stunning 7.25-carat diamond ring.
Tebow had more surprises in store for his new fiancee, including a private performance by South African singer Matthew Mole. He serenaded them with one of their favorite songs, "The Wedding Song."
Unbeknowst to Nel-Peters, Tebow also flew her family and friends to Florida so they could be there for the special moment. The group later celebrated over food and drinks at a Jacksonville club.
"Any dreams I've ever had, you've exceeded them all! I love you and I can't wait to spend forever with you!" Nel-Peters, who also shared the photos of the special day on Instagram, wrote in the caption.
As for Tebow, he told People that he is blessed to have Nel-Peters in his life.
"She's just perfect for me," he said. "I'm really blessed to have her by my side for the rest of my life."
