Careless drivers ignored the tiny creature as she clung to life on the side of the road. As car after car passed her by, it was almost certain that this tiny hedgehog was running out of time.
Finally, fate intervened and a good Samaritan spotted her. She was brought to the Israeli Wildlife Hospital near Tel Aviv.
It was only after vets assessed her injuries that she revealed her reason for living...
The little lady was protecting the five unborn babies she carried in her belly! This brave mother had survived a head-on collision with a speeding car and managed to crawl herself to safety.
Veterinary staff worked tirelessly to keep the little mama comfortable, well-fed and hydrated until the special time!
All five little babies were born healthy and the tiny family will be well cared for until they are ready to return to the wild!
