For Sarah Thistlethwaite, a mathematics teacher, Mother's Day 2014 was a very memorable occasion. She and her husband Bill, welcomed a rare set of twin babies at Akron General Medical Center in Ohio.

The 'mono-mono' twins, shared an amniotic sack, a phenomenon that happens in about one in 10,000 twin pregnancies and could even lead to the death of the babies.

To add to their miracle, the twins held hands as soon as they met each other outside of the womb. "They were born 45 seconds apart," said Amy Kilgore, a hospital spokesperson. "Once they made sure they were OK, they held them up so mom and dad could see. As soon as they were side by side, they held hands. It gave me chills."

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/1-1-2.jpg" srcset="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/1-1-2_GH_content_550px.jpg 550w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/1-1-2_GH_content_650px.jpg 650w" sizes="89vw" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>
People Magazine

Fast forward to almost 3 years later, the twins still share an amazing bond and are inseparable. The girls will turn 3 years old in May and they appear to be the best of friends! "Sometimes if my husband goes to the store, he'll take one twin and I'll keep the other," says Sarah. "When that happens, they both get really upset and ask for each other. They're definitely really close. They're like two peas in a pod."

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/6-1-1.jpg" srcset="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/6-1-1_GH_content_550px.jpg 550w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/6-1-1_GH_content_650px.jpg 650w" sizes="89vw" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>
People magazine

Even though they're very close, they each have their own personalities. According to People, "Jillian is a daredevil, while Jenna is more cautious."

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/akron-twins-07-800.jpg" srcset="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/akron-twins-07-800_GH_content_550px.jpg 550w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/akron-twins-07-800_GH_content_650px.jpg 650w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/akron-twins-07-800_GH_content_750px.jpg 750w" sizes="89vw" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>
People.com

Despite the minor differences, the adorable girls share many of the same interests and even dress alike. "They like the same foods, they both love swimming and being outside, and they love to play with the same toys," says Sarah. "We try to buy two of everything to minimize competition, but still, they usually find one to fight over "“ even if they're exactly the same."

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/akron-twins-05-435.jpg" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>
People.com

We're so glad these girls are doing well and have each other as they navigate through life. Their mom is equally as excited, "Twins have this special bond and I can't wait to watch them grow up and be best friends."
