Your bedroom should be an oasis, a place of rest where you can escape from it all and snuggle up with a good movie, or with the one you love.
Sometimes, no matter how organized it is, there is just no way to soothe your restless mind - or to stay asleep once you get there. In addition to trying out some new sleep routines, add a few of these plants to help you slip into la la land.
Lavender
This soothingly scented herb helps to induce sleep thanks to it's delicious fragrance. Lavender has been known to lower stress and blood pressure. It facilitates light sleep and decreases rapid-eye movement during the night.
This plant is perfect for stressful sleepers. Snip a few buds and place them under your pillow for a restful slumber.
Aloe Vera
This sun-loving plant releases oxygen at night, which could make for a more restful slumber. Since this plant easily reproduces, you'll be able to position a few around the house!
Jasmine
The sweet scent of jasmine was well-known in ancient times for it's relaxing properties. Since they have sedative properties, the plant's flowers can be plucked and consumed in a tea before bed.
This plant is recommended for light sleepers. If you have trouble dropping into a deep sleep, this plant will help you to experience a deeper REM cycle.
Whether you're a heavy sleeper or a wakeful wanderer, these plants will purify the air and make your bedroom a cozier place to be.
While most of these plants don't require too much attention, you'll want to be sure you know how to care for the finicky Gardenia. If you're an insomniac, you'll be glad you've got one, as this plant packs an extra punch!
Snake Plant
Similar to Aloe Vera, the snake plant is what is known as a CAM plant (crassulacean acid metabolism). It closes its stomata during the day to conserve water and then opens them at night to absorb carbon dioxide.
When they open at night, oxygen is released - perfect for sweet slumber!
Spider Plant
This one is an air purifier too! The spider plant can remove about 90% of the formaldehyde from the air. The purer the air, the easier it is for you to breathe and sleep at night.
Gardenia
These beautiful, flowering plants smell wonderful and pack a powerful punch! They have the ability to induce sleep almost as well as a prescription tablet!
They're recommended for fitful sleepers and are also said to have the ability to treat mild anxiety.
English Ivy
This plant is reported to improve allergy symptoms and asthma and can clean up to 94% of airborne feces and 78% of airborne mold.
Since it's a trailing plant, you'll want to keep it on a shelf or hang it in a basket.
