She might not be First Lady anymore, but Michelle Obama is still empowering women all over the world by just being herself.

While serving as FLOTUS, Mrs. Obama was known for her impeccable style which was always tied together with a fabulous hairdo. When in the public eye, she's sported everything from bouncy blowouts, sleek updos, messy curls and flat-iron waves but there is one style we have never seen her with - her natural curls.

Earlier this week, twitter user @meagnacarta tweeted a photo that finally gave us a look at what Michelle's hair looks like in its unstyled state. The 53-year-old lawyer had her natural tresses tucked under a grey polka dot headband and tied in a low puff.

<amp-twitter height="472" width="375" layout="responsive" data-tweetid="848679489148211201"></amp-twitter>

Although there aren't any details suggesting when the photo was snapped, Johnny Wright, Michelle's hairstylist told Refinery29 that the picture is recent. "She just got back from vacation, I think, on Friday. I'm not sure if it was her going to the airport or coming back. But that is her, and it is recent."

The photo went viral soon after it was shared and pretty much broke the internet. Twitter users were very happy to see Michelle flaunt her 'fro and they had so much to say about it.

<amp-twitter height="472" width="375" layout="responsive" data-tweetid="848686244032917505"></amp-twitter>

<amp-twitter height="472" width="375" layout="responsive" data-tweetid="849028612657487874"></amp-twitter>

<amp-twitter height="472" width="375" layout="responsive" data-tweetid="848720395477897216"></amp-twitter>

<amp-twitter height="472" width="375" layout="responsive" data-tweetid="848820732301905920"></amp-twitter>

<amp-twitter height="472" width="375" layout="responsive" data-tweetid="849117456228536320"></amp-twitter>

Now, you're probably wondering why a photo of the former FLOTUS rocking her natural do is newsworthy. Well, the image is a big deal to many women especially African-Americans who don't often show off their natural hair because it doesn't conform to society's beauty standards.

There's been a resurgence of natural hair over the last few years but it still doesn't get enough representation. There are still workplaces in the U.S where black women aren't free to wear their natural hair. In fact, in 2016 a court ruling made it legal for employers to discriminate against those with dreadlocks.

So for a role model like Michelle to embrace her own natural texture, gives other women the chance to do the unapologetically do the same.

Johnny Wright said it best, "I do think that a woman of her complexion, with her figure and her hair texture, has given a whole lot of other women a chance to look in the mirror and say 'I am beautiful, too' because I have somebody representing me." He added, "Her husband was the leader of the free world. She represented this country very well, and her platform was pure and from the heart. Having this conversation about her hair texture is totally justifiable."

Hopefully we'll keep seeing more of Michelle slaying in her natural curls because for a lot of women it more than just a hairstyle, it's an identity.
