When you are the President of the United States, the past will always come back to haunt you. Controversial photos of Trump's sons have started recirculating on Reddit even though they are several years old and people have a lot of opinions about them.

Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump went on an African safari which involved hunting big game. Photos emerged of them posing with the animals they killed and people were not happy about it, but there is more to the story.

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/rpWZzTHZCelWyW0GkmFHfACunwG4mT1r4BNbbSa7_co.jpg" srcset="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/rpWZzTHZCelWyW0GkmFHfACunwG4mT1r4BNbbSa7_co_GH_content_550px.jpg 550w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/rpWZzTHZCelWyW0GkmFHfACunwG4mT1r4BNbbSa7_co_GH_content_650px.jpg 650w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/rpWZzTHZCelWyW0GkmFHfACunwG4mT1r4BNbbSa7_co_GH_content_750px.jpg 750w" sizes="89vw" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>
Donald Trump Jr & Eric Trump with a Leopard they shot on a hunting trip

When this first came out several years ago, TMZ called them "pitiful bloodthirsty morons". But what they didn't explain was that the Trumps were hunting legally. It was confirmed by the Director-General of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority who said that they were accompanied by game rangers the entire time they hunted with a registered outfitter.

Trump Jr says that the hunting was something they did with their grandfather and that "Anyone who thinks hunters are just 'bloodthirsty morons' hasn't looked into hunting...Nature actually humbles you. Hunting forces a person to endure, to master themselves, even to truly get to know the wild environment."

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/X-oxoeAdNlO5L4s_kiL5HO1QDud5YVWHlAKCvpjrF8E.jpg" srcset="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/X-oxoeAdNlO5L4s_kiL5HO1QDud5YVWHlAKCvpjrF8E_GH_content_550px.jpg 550w" sizes="89vw" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>
Donald Trump Jr with the tail of an elephant in his hands. They said that the hair is used to make bracelets to honor the elephant.

Whether or not you agree with hunting on a moral standpoint, travelling hunters like the Trumps pay a fair bit of money to participate and that money goes towards conservation efforts.

Even the national Geographic has expressed that these hunting camps are helping them, by saying, "The great irony is that many species might not survive at all were it not for hunters trying to kill them. Trophy hunting is of key importance to conservation in Africa by creating [financial] incentives to promote and retain wildlife as a land use over vast areas..."

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/hunt30n-13-web.jpg" srcset="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/hunt30n-13-web_GH_content_550px.jpg 550w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/hunt30n-13-web_GH_content_650px.jpg 650w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/hunt30n-13-web_GH_content_750px.jpg 750w" sizes="89vw" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>
Donald Trump Jr. with a buffalo he killed.

These hunting facilities and parks bring in roughly $200 million and that goes a long way to protecting the species.

So while the images are upsetting to look at, they don't really give the full story. The conservation groups make sure to target the animals that are old and preventing the young ones from breeding, or animals who may be overpopulated and would face starvation if the numbers grew to high.

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/1438199792921-cached.jpg" srcset="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/1438199792921-cached_GH_content_550px.jpg 550w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/1438199792921-cached_GH_content_650px.jpg 650w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/1438199792921-cached_GH_content_750px.jpg 750w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/1438199792921-cached_GH_content_850px.jpg 850w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/1438199792921-cached_GH_content_950px.jpg 950w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/1438199792921-cached_GH_content_1050px.jpg 1050w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/1438199792921-cached_GH_content_1150px.jpg 1150w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/1438199792921-cached_GH_content_1250px.jpg 1250w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/1438199792921-cached_GH_content_1350px.jpg 1350w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/1438199792921-cached_GH_content_1450px.jpg 1450w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/1438199792921-cached_GH_content_1550px.jpg 1550w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/03/1438199792921-cached_GH_content_1630px.jpg 1630w" sizes="89vw" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>
Eric Trump with an antelope

What do you think, is it unacceptable to hunt these animals or is it okay as long as they are doing so responsibly?
