Everyone seems to think that Queen Elizabeth is concerned first and foremost with etiquette. In our minds, there is this vision of a classy, elegant woman who wants everyone to wear the perfect hat while drinking tea with their pinkies raised.

According to new evidence, this is not the truth.

While everyone has been busy criticizing Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton for how their attire does or doesn't fit into these so-called "queen approved" protocols, no one seemed to notice that even the queen herself doesn't care for them.

Obviously, even if she's not a fan, she's always been really careful to keep up with them, but in a meeting with former First Lady Michelle Obama, the queen revealed her true feelings on the royal protocols.

Obama has been lucky enough to meet the queen multiple times. The first was in 2009, and the second was in 2016.

While Obama was nervous to meet the monarch, her worries turned out to be unfounded.

"I had all this protocol buzzing in my head, and I was like, 'Don't trip down the stairs and don't touch anybody, whatever you do,'" Obama recalled, but when she actually came face-to-face with Queen Elizabeth, she was nothing like she expected.

Obama was actually picked up in the queen's own car when she visited in 2016. The queen likes to drive herself around, but Obama was a little nervous when she got in the vehicle, but Elizabeth was much more relaxed than the first lady expected.  

"And so the Queen says 'just get in, sit wherever' and she's telling you one thing and you're remembering protocol and she says 'Oh it's all rubbish, just get in.'"

This was kind of a revelation to the First Lady, and after that she was able to relax a bit and actually get to know the queen a little bit better. "She's smart and funny and honest," Obama revealed.

Obama is currently on tour promoting her best-selling memoir Becoming, in which she opened up a lot about her life before, during, and after her time in the White House. Obama remains an inspiration figure in the public eye, and it's interesting to see that she now has such a different opinion of the queen than the rest of us.

It can be tricky to remember that the royal family are just regular people who like to relax every now and then.
