The Crown has become one of the most popular shows that Netflix has ever produced. It follows the life of the Royal Family, specifically Queen Elizabeth II's reign after world war two ends. The show gives a sometimes raunchy, always controversial view inside the palace, and viewers have enjoyed watching moments on screen they had otherwise only heard about in history books.
Apparently, even the queen has watched the show, and she doesn't exactly hate it.
"[The Queen's son and daughter-in-law] love The Crown," an inside source said. "It has been a longstanding arrangement that they drive to Windsor at the weekend to join the Queen for an informal supper while watching TV or a film. They have a Netflix account and urged her to watch it with them. Happily, she really liked it, although obviously there were some depictions of events that she found too heavily dramatized."
One of the biggest questions surrounding The Crown was when, or if, the would be adding Princess Diana to the story. Some thought it might be in bad taste, considering the late princess is not here to give her blessing, while others said it's just a part of history.
Speculation was finally settled when Netflix announced that not only would Princess Diana be portrayed in the fourth season of the show, the also announced who would be playing her.
The streaming service sent out a press release saying that Emma Corrin would be playing the beloved princess, and put their full support behind her.
"Emma is a brilliant talent who immediately captivated us when she came in for the part of Diana Spencer," said creator Peter Morgan. "As well as having the innocence and beauty of a young Diana, she also has, in abundance, the range and complexity to portray an extraordinary woman who went from anonymous teenager to becoming the most iconic woman of her generation."
As for Corrin, she could not be more excited to play the role of Diana.
"Beyond excited and honoured to be joining The Crown for its fourth season", said Corrin. "I have been glued to the show since the first episode and to think I'm now joining this incredibly talented acting family is just surreal. Princess Diana was an icon, and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring. To be given the chance to explore her through Peter Morgan's writing is the most exceptional opportunity, and I will strive to do her justice!"
I haven't really watched the show in the past, but now knowing they'll be getting into the Princess Diana time period soon, I think I might start. Plus, Corrin can absolutely pass for Diana!
