Police have arrested an unlicensed teenage "doctor" for aggravated assault following a botched surgery in a bootleg medical clinic.
Jingyi Wang, 19, otherwise known as "Dr. Kitty" was taken into custody on Oct. 13, following a complaint from a woman who developed a serious infection from a failed "face-filler" procedure in April 2017 after responding to Wang's advertisement.
The surgery took place in an unauthorized basement clinic at Bayview Avenue and Sheppard Avenue East in Toronto.
"Within a few weeks, the woman developed an infection and had to seek medical help from a licensed plastic surgeon in Toronto," police said in a news release. "The victim required corrective surgery."
At least one advert for cosmetic procedures was placed in a restaurant in Yonge and Finch, a neighbourhood known for it's shady dealings. The flyer has raised police concerns over the potential distribution of more flyers and victims of similar butchered procedures.
The advertisement promoting Wang's services is described as "very vague in terms of what was being advertised," but also supposedly includes a barcode for potential clients to scan with a cellphone for more information, said Toronto police spokesperson Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook said to the Toronto Star.
"Who knows how many other establishments this ad is placed in? It's quite discreet how it is, so there's a possibility that there may be others and a very high likelihood that there may have been others who would have responded to this ad and sought the services of this person," Douglas-Cook said.
