If you're wondering about some of the nightmarish scenarios doctors encounter, this is definitely one of them.
49-year-old Maheshbhai Rasikbhai Patel from India was experiencing extreme abdominal pain when he went to the hospital to get checked out. What the doctors found was nothing short of horrifying: Maheshbhai had a melon-sized calcium stone in his bladder.
The man went into a 1 1/2 hour surgery at Sri Sainath Hospital to remove the stone, and it was so large that surgeons had to use a crowbar-like tool to remove it. The stone weighed 3lb, beating the previous record of biggest mass removed from the abdomen (2.6lb).
"Urinary bladder stone[s] are usually small in size ranging from 1 to 3cm, but this one was really huge," said Dr Dhirubhai C Patel, Maheshbhai's surgeon.

The stone wasn't just heavy, it was also massive in size. When medics measured it, they found it was 11.5cm by 17cm! The entire mass was so oversized, it filled his pelvic cavity.
What does it feel like to have a huge bladder stone? Maheshbai said: "I was suffering from excruciating pain for the past few days. After the operation, I am feeling better."
Dr Dhirubhai reports that although urinary bladder stones are common in India, Maheshbhai's case is unusual.
"One of the main reasons of formation of stone in this stone could be high level of calcium in his urine and improper flow of urine. In 1997, the patient met with an accident in which he suffered injury in his urethra. This might also have helped in the formation of stone," Dr Dhirubhai said.
