Mother Nature can be unpredictable and so can death.
Famous for chasing storms on Discovery Channel's Storm Chasers, star Joel Taylor has died at the age of 38 according to his friend and associates.
"I am shocked and absolutely devastated by the loss of my incredible, caring friend," Storm Chasers's co-star Reed Timmer wrote on Twitter.
Team Western OK Chasers, a group based out of Oklahoma wrote on Facebook, "He didn't chase for the glory, he chased because he had a true passion for storms. In the last few years he would load up with his dad and go chase and not even take a camera. Our hearts are hurting for his mom Tracy and dad Jimmy along with his brother and sister and their children. Please know you are in our prayers. RIP Joel."
Taylor studied meteorology at the University of Oklahoma and joined Storm Chasers in 2008 tracking twisters behind the wheel in Tornado Alley. Timmer, a college buddy, was by his side as they led the show's team from TornadoVideos.Net.
The pair had a falling out, and Taylor went on to pursue real estate before returning to the show as Timmer's wheelman. The show was cancelled in 2012, but not so quickly forgotten.
At this time it's unclear how he died.
"Many people have asked how Joel passed away. For the sake of no false information and repeated reply's to the question. This is my reply. There is no answer at this time. The medical professionals are trying to determine the cause," the group posted.
Storm Chasers was filmed each year in Tornado Alley in the central part of the country where tornadoes are a common occurrence.
