Do you feel lucky? Well, do ya?
I guess that depends on who you're asking, because one man certainly was lucky and Storage Wars host Dan Dotson...well he wasn't.
Dotson cut a deal on an unclaimed storage unit with a man for a measily $500. Dotson usually gets better than he gives, but he couldn't have known what was inside.
He told The Blast all about it at the Cars, Stars and Rock N' Roll charity auction.
"An older Asian woman at the table next to me kept looking at me like she wanted to tell me something," he said. "Eventually she walked up and told me her husband works with a guy who bought a unit from me for $500 and found a safe inside."
It's a safe, so you'd think there'd be something pretty valuable inside.
You'd be right.
After a locksmith broke open the safe they found $7.5 million in cold, hard cash.
So this lucky son of a gun spent $500 and cashed out with $7.5 million. At least he thought.
Apparently after word got out an attorney contacted the savvy storage shopper. The attorney said he represented the original owner, and would offer them $600K as a reward in return for the money.
The man refused, but accepted a second offer of $1.2 million.
I don't know how someone can store away $7.5 million and forget about it, but that's apparently what happened.
Although the man who found it didn't keep the whole sum, walking away with over a million dollars is still a heck of a reward.
As for Dotson? He's stuck with his $500 check, and a probably a little bit of jealousy.
