A 17-year-old snowboarder has won the United States's first Olympic gold medal, despite oversleeping and binge watching Netflix the night before.
Redmond Gerard, from Silverthorne, Colorado, had been watching the popular video-on-demand network, making him sleep through his alarm the next morning.
According to the Metro, when the five foot five teenager woke up, he realized he had misplaced his jacket, and was forced to borrow his friend's.
Despite his teammate, Kyle Mack, having to drag him out of bed, Gerard managed to earn the country's first gold medal.
At 17 years and 277 days old, Gerard is the youngest U.S. Winter Olympic champion since 1928, the Strait Times reports.
Gerard had participated in the in the slopestyle competition, where his three snowboarding runs earned himself a combined score of 87.16.
"I'm super-psyched! I cannot believe it. I'm shaking right now, maybe from the cold or the excitement, I don't know. But I'm ecstatic. I can't believe it. It was awesome," Gerard said.
"I just told myself that I want to land a run. I was a little bummed on my first two runs because I fell a couple of times. I was just so happy that it all worked out. I was really happy when I saw I came in as first," the athlete explained.
He managed to beat out Canadian snowboarders Max Parrot and Mark McMorris, who earned the silver and bronze medals respectively.
But Gerard isn't the only teenage Olympian to score a gold medal.
Chloe Kim, 17, also walked away the with the win in the women's halfpipe event at the PyeongChang games. Her teammate Arielle Gold also won the bronze medal at the same event.
Congratulations to all of our American athletes, as participating in the Olympic games is no easy feat!
