I was recently cruising down the health food aisle at my local grocery store when I came across their selection of protein bars and since I've been paying attention to my macros (fancy term for proteins, carbohydrates and fats), I decided to read the labels on some of the bars.
First thought that came to mind was that I should just eat a candy bar instead as the sugar content in some of the bars are ridiculously high. The solution? Homemade protein bars!
I did some research and found out that making protein bars at home is super easy and you can control exactly what goes in them so that you aren't eating sugar and preservative filled "junk" disguised as healthy.
The recipes I've rounded-up all contain natural sweeteners like honey and stevia, superfoods like chia and matcha and generous amounts of protein from nuts, nut butters and of course, protein powder. These bars are easy to make-ahead for a grab and go snack and delicious enough to curb your sugar cravings without the guilt. Enjoy!
