When a baby is born, it should be one of the happiest moments of your life. However for Khalida Begum it was probably the most terrifying thing she has ever experienced.

Hoping to have a healthy baby, she could not have prepared herself for the child she was handed. She was so shocked that when she saw her son she had to have the midwife take him away.

The boy was born with a rare but severe condition called harlequin ichthyosis which affects the skin and can cause deformities in features.

Her boy was born with an incredibly small head with large bulging eyes."Several body parts of the baby is not completely developed. When I saw the baby after delivery for the first time, I was completely shocked to see the alien-looking boy. I was so shocked and saddened by this that I asked the midwife to take the baby out of my sight," Khalida admitted.

While the mother was reluctant, the locals and the baby's father Mohammed Imtiyaz believed that he is the incarnation of a Hindu god called Hanuman.

The boy's condition affects about 1 in every 300,000 births and requires a lot of care as the skin must be moisturized and protected constantly. Currently the oldest known survivor with this condition is Nusrit "Nelly" Shaheen who was born in 1984 and is in relatively good health.

The lifespan of a person born with this condition has not been determined as there are many new treatments being developed.
