Teen Mom is nothing if not dramatic. The show follows the lives of young mothers who had originally appeared on 16 & Pregnant, and documents their struggles with raising kids even though some of them are still kids themselves.
The original cast is the most popular, as people fell in love with their stories.
Farrah Abraham certainly raised some eyebrows when she started so much drama on the show, they eventually fired her. She's raising her daughter Sophia alone as her father, Derek Underwood, died before Sophia was born.
Then there's Amber Portwood, who shares her daughter Leah with ex-boyfriend Gary. Amber faced a lot of issues in her early time on the show, including a stint in prison, but she's got her life on track now and is expecting her second child.
Catelynn and Tyler were the only ones from their season to give up their daughter, Carly, for adoption. The couple is still together and his since gotten married and had another child, named Nova. Both Catelynn and Tyler are open about their current struggles with mental health.
And finally, there's Maci Bookout-Mckinney, who is considered the most level-headed member of the cast. She's since gotten married and had more kids, despite a devastating miscarriage. She had her first son, Bentley, with her then-boyfriend Ryan Edwards, who immediately proposed to the teen. But Maci broke off the engagement when she realized that Ryan was not ready to be a dad. Ryan still appears on the show, constantly fighting with Maci about seeing Bentley even though he doesn't make an effort to get his life together.
Now, it looks like Maci dodged an insane bullet when it comes to Ryan.
It's no secret that Ryan had a serious drug problem. He was caught on camera driving on the way to his wedding with his bride-to-be, Mackenzie, completely high out of his mind. The clip aired on Teen Mom, and MTV faced extreme backlash for airing the scene.
"Did you take Xanax again?" Mackenzie was heard asking.
"Um, I don't ... I don't have any," he responded with a mumble.
"You did," she replied.
MTV responded to the backlash with a statement.
"MTV does not condone driving under the influence. Ryan's erratic behavior was due to actions that he took without anyone's prior knowledge."
Maci contacted an addictions counsellor, as she did not know how to handle the father of her child being an addict.
"Honestly, the hardest thing is for me to see Ryan not love himself because he is a person worth loving. He deserves to love himself," Bookout explained. "I talk to Taylor about it like, "˜I wonder if today's going to be the day that Ryan does something that he can't come back from?'"
Ryan ended up revealing after the episode aired that he had, in fact, checked into rehab. Admitted that Ryan had been dealing with a $10,000-a-week heroin addiction.
"A little over 30 days ago, I made the decision to check myself into a rehabilitation facility. I am back home now doing well, and life could not be better," he said in a statement. "Without the support of my wife and parents I would not have been able to do this. Thank you all for your well wishes."
It seemed like Ryan was getting his life in order, especially after he and Mackenzie announced they were expecting their first child together on March 26. But the next day, he found himself in some hot water.
Ryan was arrested in his home on Tuesday, March 27, after cops executed a warrant for violating probation. It's unclear what the violation was, but it was in relation to a previous case of simple possession of heroin. The Teen Mom star posted bail and was released on March 28.
Neither police nor Ryan have responded to the arrest reports, but I think it's safe to say it will lead to way more drama for the upcoming season of Teen Mom.
