In the past, we've shared some of the strange ways that animal shelters around the country have tried to get attention for their animals.
No matter how funny or strange they are, it's always nice to see the weird things people will do to help some cats find a good home. But I think these photos by the Chesapeake Humane Society have raised the bar for every other shelter.
To add a little glamour to pet adoption, the shelter staff posed with some of the felines up for adoption in these wacky photos. I can't tell what's more bizarre, the strange props or the hypnotizing backgrounds.
Michelle Dumas, the shelter's marketing coordinator and the person who organized the photos, told USA Today she thinks "people get a kick out of us making fools of ourselves, and I think people definitely don't mind sharing cute, over-the-top images of pets."
It may seem a little odd, but the campaign has already paid off. One of the cats featured in the pictures has been adopted, and the shelter hopes the others won't have to wait very long.
