<div><p>If you ask people to name Hollywood's most glamorous actress there's no doubt Marilyn Monroe will top the list. More than 50 years after her tragic early death, a record-breaking sale of her most recognizable outfit proves she's one of history's most iconic celebrities.</p><p>The dress, which Monroe wore while singing "Happy Birthday" to President John F. Kennedy in 1962, sold at auction for $4.8 million dollars, the most anyone has ever paid for a dress - not bad, considering it originally cost just $12,000.</p><p>And it's no wonder why: the stunning, designer dress made Monroe's performance (and her last public appearance) a career-defining moment. </p><div><div><div><amp-youtube height="9" width="16" layout="responsive" data-videoid="EqolSvoWNck"></amp-youtube></div></div></div><p></p><p><!-- [invalid-shortcode] --></p><p></p><p>Monroe only wore the dress once, at a Democratic party fundraiser in New York's Madison Square Garden.
