For years, everyone was convinced that Princess Diana looked just like her mother, Frances Shand Kydd. The mother and daughter were both tall with svelte figures, had blonde hair, and beautiful smiles.
Decades later, we've seen some of their gorgeous features passed down to Prince William, Prince Harry as well as Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
However, after a new colorized photo was shared by Princess Diana's brother, royal watchers can't help but point out how much Diana, her children and grandchildren, look like her own father, John Spencer.
Charles Spencer posted the portrait on Twitter last week, revealing that digital colorist and co-author of The Colour of Time Marina Amaral transformed a black-and-white photograph of their father during his days in the army into a colored image.
"Thanks so much @marinamaral2 for turning one of my favourite black and white pictures of my father into this beautiful colour image," he wrote in the caption.
As soon as the image was posted, people were quick to point out that Charles, Diana,William and Harry took after the eighth Earl Spencer.
Turns out, Diana and her offspring got more than just looks from John. They also inherited some of his best personality traits. Charles described his late father as "a gentle, kind, man without any pretentiousness."
"He was a loving father, and a man who enjoyed meeting people of every background," he added. "He treated everyone with great respect."
He had ties to the royals much before his daughter married into the family. He was a descendant of Henry VII and after the Second World War, he worked as Equerry (personal attendant of a senior royal) to King George VI as well as Queen Elizabeth II.
John developed a very close relationship with the royal family, and the Queen even attended his wedding to Frances. The couple wed in 1954, but after five children and nine years of marriage, they divorced in 1969. He remarried in 1976, a year after he became the eighth Earl Spencer.
Despite dealing with poor health (he suffered a stroke), he famously walked Diana down the aisle at her 1981 wedding to Prince Charles.
Unfortunately, he left the world after suffering from a heart attack in 1992 at the age of 68. However, his legacy continues to live on through his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the photograph reminds us all of that.
