Marriage proposals are an important time in a couple's life. We see the lengths at which people go to woo their partner and create the most romantic night possible for them. From romantic dinners, to public displays at their favorite sports event, we are drawn to see how these couples express their love and affection towards one another, as they enter the next phase of their lives.
Well being proposed to by a prince sure must be all those things and more!
Yesterday, Clarence House announced that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are now officially engaged.
"His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms Meghan Markle," read the statement.
After months of speculation, the news that everyone has been waiting for was delivered, and a spring royal wedding is in the works.
"Prince Harry has informed The Queen and other close members of The Royal Family," the statement continued. "Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle's parents."
The couple started dating after meeting in Toronto, where the Suits actress lived and worked, while Harry was promoting the Invictus Games in 2016.
"We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people's perception," the actress told Vanity Fair.
After the news of their engagement broke, the couple made their first public appearance and the photos are priceless.
Now that they are officially an engaged couple, they sat down for an interview and revealed how Harry popped the big question.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared the sweet details of the royal proposal and it's exactly what we were hoping it would be.
The newly engaged couple sat down for their first-ever joint interview together.
According to the couple, the proposal happened a few weeks ago at their cottage in Kensington Palace.
"It was a cozy night," Meghan told the BBC. "We were roasting chicken. It was just an amazing surprise. It was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got down on one knee."
Harry added: "It was a really nice moment "” it was just the two of us. I think I managed to catch her by surprise."
Meghan then excitedly said: "Yes, as a matter of fact I could barely let you finish proposing! I said, "˜Can I say yes now!' "
The couple, who revealed they first met on a blind date after being set up by a female friend, worked hard to make their long-distance relationship successful.
"I fell in love with Meghan so incredibly quickly... All the stars were aligned - everything was just perfect. It was this beautiful woman just sort of literally tripped and fell into my life - I fell into her life," Harry said.
Four weeks after they met, Harry persuaded Meghan to join him on a five-day break in Botswana.
"We camped out with each other under the stars... which was absolutely fantastic," Harry revealed.
They shared that in their 16-month relationship they never went more than two weeks without seeing eachother, in spite of living in separate countries and dealing with a five hour time difference.
"But no, I think we were able to really have so much time just to connect and we never went longer than two weeks without seeing each other, even though we were obviously doing a long distance relationship. So it's - we made it work," Harry said.
