Shoppers should check the flour in their cupboards and on their grocery store's shelves, after the Hometown Food Company issued a voluntary recall for Pillsbury flour products.
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) warns that some lots of Pillsbury Unbleached All Purpose Flour are contaminated with salmonella.
More than 12,000 cases of the flour were sold at major retailers, including Publix and Winn-Dixie grocery stores.
The recalled flour includes all bags with a lot code of 8 292 and a "best if used by" date of April 19, 2020, or a lot code of 8 293 and a "used by" date of April 20, 2020.
So far, there are no reported illnesses linked to this recall, but the USDA and Publix have both warned customers not to eat the affected flour.
Instead, the flour should be thrown out or returned to the store for a refund.
The Food and Drug Administration also chose to highlight the recall, reminding the public to "never eat raw dough when making cookies" or eat raw flour.
The grain used to make flour is usually not treated to kill bacteria like salmonella or E. coli.
Symptoms of infections caused by salmonella include vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. While salmonella infections are sometimes fatal, most people recover in a few days without treatment.
