According to a recent study, couples who have expensive weddings are more likely to end up divorced than those who opted for the cheaper route.
While this may be true for the 3,000 married couples they surveyed, there is at least one couple who would disagree: Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye Smith.
The Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again star and his journalist wife tied the knot in August of 2001 and threw a lavish reception in County Mayo, Ireland.
The event featured a $2,430 six-tier carrot cake inspired by Jack and Jacqueline Kennedy's wedding cake, hundreds of thousands of dollars in flowers, food and entertainment, including fireworks.
17 years later, it looks like the pricey affair was well worth it as the couple are still happily married.
The James Bond actor recently took to social media to remind us all just how much he's still in love with his wife as they celebrate a very special milestone: a quarter century of love!
Brosnan and Shaye Smith dated for a couple of years before saying "I do," so as of 2018, they have been a couple for a total of 25 years.
"Thank you for the love my love of these past 25 years, onwards," Brosnan lovingly wrote in an Instagram post.
This isn't the first time that Brosnan has gushed about his wife. In a March 2016 interview with Independent, he revealed the things he loves and admires the most about Shaye Smith.
"I love her vitality, her passion," he said. "She has this strength that I wouldn't be able to live without. When Keely looks at me, I go weak."
What's the secret to making their marriage work?
The lovebirds, who share two sons together, Dylan, 21, and Paris, 17, are all about spending quality time together.
"My wife and I took a short road trip up to Santa Barbara "” we were going for a romantic weekend and to look at houses and drink great wine," Brosnan told People in 2017. "We didn't listen to any music, but we just listened to the sounds of each other's voices and sorted out the world."
This milestone is especially important to Brosnan, who hasn't had much luck with love before Shaye Smith. His first wife, Cassandra, died in 1991 from ovarian cancer.
He met Shaye Smith in 1994 in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where she was working as a TV correspondent.
It was fate that brought them together as Shaye Smith wasn't even supposed to be at the same party as Brosnan. She only attended the get together because her scheduled interview with Ted Danson fell through.
"I found a great woman in Keely Shaye," the actor told People. "Not if I searched a million times over would I find one as good."
The couple are currently travelling the world together as Brosnan continues to promote is latest film Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
He shared a few more photos on Instagram, including one where he and his "darling family" are enjoying a night out at the movie's London premiere.
Brosnan also shared a third photo, this time a selfie with his wife in New York City as they continue to promote the film.
Such a lovely couple! Here's to 25 more years of love!
