Meghan McCain, The View co-host and daughter of GOP Senator John McCain, and her fiancé, conservative pundit Ben Domenech, are now a married couple! The lovebirds tied the knot a few days, mere weeks after she announced their engagement.
Meghan, 33, told her fellow co-hosts that she and her long-time boyfriend made the decision to wed while her father was undergoing cancer treatment at the Mayo Clinic in July. Senator McCain was diagnosed with stage four glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, earlier this year.
"We've been together for years. And we have been engaged for a while," Meghan explained. "It was a secret. I was hoping to get married and people wouldn't find out, but people talk sometimes and I love him very much and I'm very happy."
She continued, "We got engaged because we decided to sort of celebrate life, and celebrate being alive. It's not the most romantic story, but he is my partner."
On November 21, Meghan and Ben, 35, held their nuptials just before sunset at the bride's family lodge in Sedona, Arizona. The pair were surrounded by 100 of their closest family and friends, as they exchanged vows and celebrated their union in a Western hunting lodge-themed wedding.
Although the wedding photos were kept hidden for a few days, Senator McCain took to Twitter the day after the affair to share a photo of himself, his wife and their dog at the venue.
He also shared a throwback photo of his family, including a young Meghan, and captioned it with, "Yesterday I was deeply blessed to give away my little girl at a ceremony with family & friends in #Arizona. Congratulations @MeghanMcCain & @bdomenech - we are so happy for you!"
Now, just a couple of days after the senator's heartfelt post, photos of the wedding have finally emerged.
According to a McCain family representative, "The bride's father, Senator John McCain, gave her away and they were married by John Dickerson. Following the ceremony, McCain and Domenech celebrated with dinner and dancing surrounded by their family and close friends."
Meghan's wedding planner, Jim Bullock, explained that she "didn't want to have a traditional wedding," so she walked down the aisle covered in cow hides. Her bouquet was "wild" and "flowery" and everything from her dress to the decor was "very 1920s looking."
The reception featured a cigar bar as well as a gambling casino with slot machines, poker and roulette tables. The dinner menu had a lot of wild game, and was described as "something you would have if you were in a tented hunting lodge."
Although the couple only released one official photograph from the wedding, guests didn't waste any time in posting their own snaps on social media. Take a look:
They even posted a photo of the couple's first dance.
Meghan herself shared a few pictures on Instagram, one of which was captioned, "We got married in a fever, hotter than a pepper sprout." 🇺🇸â¤ï¸ðŸŒµ 11.21.2017."
Congratulations to the newlyweds!
