I love a good bowl of ice cream, but there's something about an ice cream sandwich that just makes the dessert even better. I remember being at the pool when I was a kid and it was 25 cents for an ice cream sandwich. We'd always get one after our swim and it was just so classic.
However, I don't know what I would have done if I was ever handed a hot dog ice cream sandwich. Granted, they didn't exits then, but now they're a real thing. Oscar Mayer announced on Twitter that they're releasing a new ice cream sandwich that's got actual pieces of hot dog in it.
"Who eats just mustard @Frenchs?" the company tweeted. "Condiments were made for Oscar Mayer hot dogs. Say hello to the Oscar Mayer Ice Dog Sandwich - flavored ice cream, made with our better hot dogs, sandwiched with spicy mustard . Do you want to try this? Coming in August #OscarMayerIceCream"
It sounds weird, right? That's because it is. The company explained what exactly is involved in the new "treat," and it really doesn't make things any better.
"For curious taste buds, here are the delicious ingredients for Oscar Mayer's Ice Dog Sandwich–the hottest this summer:
Candied Hot Dog Bits
Hot Dog Sweet Cream
Spicy Dijon Gelato
Cookie Bun

Dijon gelato? Candied hot dog bits? No thank you. But Oscar Mayer is standing behind their decision to create such a polarizing ice cream flavor. They're even traipsing them around New York City in the coming days.
"Want to get your hands on our Ice Dog Sandwiches?" the Twitter account questioned. "Our @Wienermobile will be in NYC cruising around Bryant Park @ lunchtime on 8/14. Come find us if you want to taste ice cream history. #OscarMayerIceCream. Our DMs have been flooded for so we had to close them. BUT! If you 'like' this post, we'll remind you on 8/14 when the chance to win #OscarMayerIceCream is officially open."
People (rightfully) questioned the motives behind the new ice cream flavor, but Oscar Mayer assures people this new invention is actually really good.
"Well. We ARE hot dog fanatics and would NEVER put out a flavor that isn’t delicious!" the company said. "Oh, it tastes MORE than good. We worked with our team of flavor experts to make sure."
"If you love artisan crafted ice cream made with candied bits of Oscar Mayer Angus Beef Hot Dogs, your answer should 100% be YES!" they continued. "We mean it when we say hot dogs are our heart and soul, so it makes perfect sense to literally add them into the finest ice cream ever. Just imagine taking a bite and tasting the sweet combo of candied 🌭 bits, spicy dijon mustard, brown sugar + sweet cream ice cream 💛"
Now, Oscar Mayer might be thrilled about their new invention...but that's about it. The reaction on Twitter has been skeptical at best.
"I think you have just answered the question to, what is wrong with this world?" Twitter user StellaLimeLight wrote.
"I've contacted Law Enforcement, everyone. Don't panic. We'll get to the bottom of this madness," Twitter user Brave Black Woman wrote.
"Reported for crimes against humanity," Michelle Mancini wrote.
"Yeah, uhhh, I have a question..What the heck?" one user named Shawn simply asked.
Other people were wondering if the company might have confused August 1st with April 1st, thinking this was some kind of joke. Oscar Mayer stood by their product, and responded to any and all questions about the authenticity by inviting people to come see the Weiner Mobile for an ice cream sandwich.
To me, this all sounds like a huge publicity stunt for a company that's relatively "mild." That being said, I don't know that it's worth it if the publicity you're getting is about an ice cream sandwich with hot dogs in it.
