If you ask a set of twins what the worst part of being a twin is, more often than not, they'll answer with "sharing everything." Twins often have a hard time finding a sense of individuality, between matching outfits, matching toys, and matching birthdays, it's difficult to be seen as your own person.
These twins from Kern County, California won't have that problem, though! They may be twins, but not only do they have different birthdays, they also have different birth YEARS!
Every year, it's always fun to see which baby will be born first on New Year's Day, but only one of these twins will get the honor.
At Delano Regional Medical Center, the first set of twins were born in 2018, or at least one half of the duo was!
Joaquin Ontiveros was born at 11:58 p.m. on December 21st, 2017.
His twin sister, Aitana, was born on January 1st, 2018, at 12:16 a.m.
The twins were about a month early, according to their mom, Maria Esperanza Flores Rio, and their timing couldn't have been any better! Joaquin weighed in at 5lbs 9oz, while his sister Aitana was 4lbs 10oz. The baby girl was delivered by cesarean section because she was slightly breached, and she is believed to be the first baby born in Kern County in 2018.
As per tradition at Delano Regional Medical Center, Maria and her twins were showered with gifts from staff, who always offer new baby gear to the first baby born in 2018. Of course in this case, both babies will be enjoying the presents! Over $3,000 in gifts and gear were given to the family.
But it's not like only one twin has a title bestowed upon them! Joaquin was the last baby to be born in 2017 in Kern County, while Aitana was the first baby born in 2018. They'll be going home with mom in a few days, where the twins will be greeted with the love of their three older sisters.
Congratulations to the family on their new additions!
