It's not unusual for a big brand to make mistakes when they shoot commercials. It seems like every week we hear about another company apologizing for offending someone. Nivea better hope someone makes a mistake quick, because theirs was a doozy.

Nivea posted an image from a new ad campaign on their Facebook page in the Middle East. It didn't take long before people starting commenting with their outrage.

Can you guess why?

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/whiteispurity-metro.jpg" srcset="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/whiteispurity-metro_GH_content_550px.jpg 550w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/whiteispurity-metro_GH_content_650px.jpg 650w" sizes="89vw" title="Nivea Ad" alt="Nivea Ad" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>
Metro

Everyone seemed to have an opinion, and most of them weren't good.

"Shame shame shame," wrote one woman on Twitter. Many others called out the company for being racist.

For their part Nivea says it was half of a new campaign for their "invisible deodorant" another ad was supposed to show a woman wearing black with the caption "black is strength".

While it was clearly an accident, this kind of wording is obviously going to spark outrage. You have to wonder who approved it in the first place. The only reason more people weren't talking about it was that it happened at the same time as Pepsi's ill-fated Protest Commercial.

What do you think? Should Nivea have apologized or were people overreacting?
