When seconds matter, a rescue inhaler could be the difference between life and death.
A nationwide recall has been announced for inhalers produced by GlaxoSmithKline. Almost 600,000 inhalers are affected by the recall due to a defective delivery system.
The FDA has reported that some inhalers were "out of specification results for leak rate."
The recall doesn't pose an immediate danger to patients, but consumers are being instructed to return the purchased inhalers.
The affected product includes: Ventiolin HFA (albuterol sulfate) Inhalation Aerosol, 90 mcg per actuation, 200 metered inhalations, net weight 18 g inhalers, RX only.
"We currently don't anticipate a supply impact to Ventolin HFA 200D inhaler as a result of this issue," GSK said in a statement, according to Reuters.
