They say that money can't buy love, but we have no doubt it can buy a marriage.
The only question is whether Thai millionaire Arnon Rodthong's huge bounty will be enough to net his daughter Karnsita a husband.
Rodthong, 56, made his fortune by farming durians - the fruit so smelly they have been banned by certain hotels and taxi companies.
His daughter Karnsita, 26, is single and - for now - devoted to helping with the family business. But Rodthong is obviously eager to help his daughter leave the nest.
He's offering eligible bachelors 10 million Thai Baht (around $314,000) to take Karnsita's hand, along with an interest in his multi-million dollar farm.
In parts of Thailand, it's traditional for men to pay a dowry to their fiancees, but Rodthong says the right man can marry his daughter at no charge and pocket the extra Baht.
And unlike similar offers from parents desperate to marry off their children, Rodthong has a very relaxed list of requirements for Karnsita's suitors.
"I want someone to take care of my business and make it last," the farmer said.
"I don't want a person with a bachelor's, or master's or philosopher's degree. I want a diligent man. I just want someone with a hard-working attitude. That's all."
In fact, here are Rodthang's only three requirements for his daughter's suitors:
- Be able to read and write.
- Be hard working and not lazy.
- Be stingy about money and love durian.
While we wouldn't want Karnsita's husband to be a blatant gold-digger, her father makes it very clear that his future son-in-law would stand to inherit quite a bit of money.
"As soon as I have an in-law, I will give up all my assets to him," Rodthong said.
The proud dad also reports that his daughter speaks English and Chinese, and says she's never had a boyfriend.
Karnsita is aware of her dad's embarrassing offer, and was "surprised" he went public with it, but has no qualms about meeting the man of her dreams thanks to all the publicity.
"I first found out about my father's post when my friend's showed me," she revealed. "I was surprised but I can see the funny side to it, too."
"It is true that I am still single," Karnsita adds. "If I have to get married with someone, I only want him to be a diligent and good person who loves his family."
The humble Karnsita says she's not even picky about her husband-to-be's looks.
"I'm not very good-looking myself," she told reporters, "so I'm okay with any appearance."
Before you look up how to ship a dozen roses to Thailand, I'd recommend a trip to the grocery store to see if you can stand the smell of a durian - let alone a whole farm full of them.
Applicants for Karnsita's hand are invited to visit Rodthong's business in Chanthaburi on April 1, 2019.
