Being the only member of Meghan Markle's controversial family to attend the royal wedding, interest in Doria Ragland's life grew exponentially after her daughter became the Duchess of Sussex.
There have been rumors that the California-based yoga teacher and former social worker is planning a move to the U.K. to be closer to her daughter, and has even been taking baby classes to prepare for her upcoming grandchild.
"Meghan wants to avoid hiring staff if possible once her first child arrives," an insider told the Daily Star. "The thought of having her mum move in with them and take on the role of baby nurse is the best possible solution to that. Even more so because it's something Doria has always wanted to do anyway."
Previous reports also revealed that Doria, who has a great rapport with the royals, was invited by the Queen to join the family's annual Christmas festivities at Sandrigham House.
Queen Elizabeth II only invites her immediate family members, their spouses and children to spend quality time with her over the holidays. Girlfriends, even if they're engaged, are never part of the exclusive trip, and neither are in-laws.
The alleged invite took royal watchers by surprise because not even the parents of Kate Middleton or the late Princess Diana were ever invited to spend time at Her Majesty's country home at Christmas.
Many people were convinced that the invite may have been extended to Doria so Meghan, who is extremely close to her mother, would spend quality time with her during her first Christmas as a duchess.
Despite the reported invitation, People magazine has confirmed that Doria will not be spending Christmas with her daughter's new family.
The news comes not too long after the outlet reported that Doria will also not be moving into Meghan and Prince Harry's new home at Windsor Castle. She will certainly have a room or two set aside for her at Frogmore Cottage after the couple move in the new year, but she's not calling England home anytime soon.
The reasons for why Doria won't join her daughter for Christmas haven't been made clear, but while some reports say she turned down the invitation, others believe that it has to do with the former Suits star's alleged diva attitude.
Certain royal watchers think that this is one way the royal family is putting their foot down on Meghan's rebellious ways, including her behavior towards the household staff and breaking protocol during public appearances.
However, those who are close to the retired actress, and even her estranged dad, Thomas, spoke out in defense of Meghan.
"Meghan has always been a very polite girl, she's never been rude to anyone to my knowledge. She was raised on Hollywood stages and learned to respect the crew and learned to respect everyone. I just can't see her being rude to anybody. It's not her."
At the end of the day, things that are being said about Meghan's behavior are all speculation, so we'll take them with a grain of salt. Surely, there are much more logical reasons why Doria will not be joining her daughter for Christmas this year, but they don't owe us an explanation.
