It seems like everyone has been celebrating the royal engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but apparently not everyone is as excited as you would think. While you would think that her family would be happy to spend some time with the royal family, they are instead using the announcement as an excuse for their problems.
Markle's family has been raising some concerns over the last couple weeks. Her half-sister recently spoke out about Harry's comments saying that the royal Christmas celebration was like "the family she never had." She said, "Meg's family(our family) is complete with sister, brother, aunts, uncles, cousins, and the glue of our family, our amazing completely self-sacrificing father. She always had this family...Marrying merely extends it."
She also accused Markle of being "too busy" for her family, making sure to promote her new book she is writing called "The Diary of Princess Pushy's Sister". But this isn't the only family member who has been causing a commotion in the media. Recently Markle's half-brother, Thomas, has been making headlines after his fiancee, Darlene Blount, was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault.
But after the incident he has spoken out about how his sister's engagement contributed to the assault.
On New Year's day, Blount hit his face and then tried to claim that his injuries were self-inflicted. Thomas paid the $1,000 bail to get his fiancee out of jail, but he says that the reason this all happened was because of his sisters sudden increase in fame.
"It hasn't been easy. Meghan's relationship with Prince Harry has shone a spotlight on our family. It doesn't help when you have issues and your sister is engaged to royalty. It adds a whole new level of scrutiny," he said. "We've been under a lot of stress because of all the attention. At some point you find yourself drinking too much to escape the pressure."
He isn't sure if he will be invited to the wedding, but he did say that he would be interested in going. "I don't know if [Meghan] gets to invite who she wants," he said. "But she'll reach out if she wants me there. She'll call me. She knows where to find me. But that's up to her, there's no pressure. I wouldn't mind seeing my little sister have the biggest wedding in the world. That would be incredible."
However, this isn't the first time Blount and Thomas have been in trouble with the law. They previously had an incident where Thomas threatened Blount with a gun. No word from Meghan Markle about the incident yet, but chances are the royal family won't be too impressed with his history.
