Wouldn't it be nice if you were sitting on a fortune, or a piece of history?
Of course it would be, but only if you eventually found out that you were.
You don't often hear stories about people discovering something hidden in their home, but when you do, you can't help but feel intrigued.
For more than two decades, Colin and Vanessa Steer lived in their gorgeous dream terrace home.
They noticed a part of their living room floor was dipped inward, but didn't look much further into it since they had three young children at the time.
"I was replacing the joists in the floor when I noticed a slight depression "“ it appeared to be filled in with the foundations of the house," he told the Telegraph. "I dug down about one foot but my wife just wanted to me to cover it back up because we had three children running around at the time."
Once the Steer kids grew up, Colin decided to have another look at the sunken floor in the living room.
"I always wanted to dig it out to see if I could find a pot of gold at the bottom," he said.
By that time, he was a retired civil servant and ready to uncover any hidden treasures in their old home.
Digging To The Truth
Colin and his neighbor spent three days digging inside the well. They managed to get to approximately 17 feet deep in a hole that stretched 30 inches wide.
"I was quite surprised really, I would have preferred it to be in the garden where I could have got at it a little easier."
It took them around six months to actually get close the bottom, which turned out to be 33 feet deep.
What they discovered in their home in Plymouth, England was a medieval well that's believed to date back to the 16th century. But that's not all...
While Colin was excavating the well, he found an old sword.
"It was hidden at a 45 degree angle and sort of just fell out. It looks like an old peasant's fighting weapon because it appears to be made up of bits of metal all knocked together," he said.
And while working out back in his garden, the father-of-three unearthed two German weapons.
A bomb squad had to be called in to remove the devices.
As for the house itself, Colin has no idea exactly when it was built.
"There could have been a couple of cottages here or it could have served a farm. I'd like to find something down the bottom, something to give me an age. I wish I had a Tardis to go back in time and see what was here."
There are still a lot of unanswered questions, but Colin plans to get to the bottom of it (literally).
"I love the well and think it's fascinating. I'd love to find out who was here before us. I've got a piece of Plymouth's history in my front room."
In the meantime, friends and family are throwing money down the well for good luck, while his wife, Vanessa, is worried about what this will mean for the value of their property.
"I hate the well," Vanessa said. "But I suppose it is quite a feature. When we come to sell the house I just hope it's not a white elephant in the room."
Have you ever found a hidden treasure in your home?

The Steers are not the only couple to have found something mysterious in their house. A California couple found a hidden treasure in the most unlikely place while moving into their new home.
