As we near the end of the fourth and final quarter of the year, many companies are taking the time to reassess the state of their business and come up with strategies to help them finish the year strong.
While companies like Amazon and Starbucks are guaranteed to end 2018 on a positive note, not everyone is so lucky.
Following the recent downfall of iconic retailers such as Sears and Toys 'R' Us, home improvement chain Lowe's has announced that it will be shuttering some of its stores in the United States and Canada.
The retailer said that the affected stores have been under-performing, and this decision was made after a "strategic reassessment."
"While decisions that impact our associates are never easy, the store closures are a necessary step in our strategic reassessment as we focus on building a stronger business," said Marvin R. Ellison, Lowe's president and CEO.
A total of 51 out of the chain's 2000 locations in North America will go out of business. In the U.S., 20 stores will be impacted.
This decision will also affect hundreds of employees, but Lowe's has vowed to help these workers find similar positions within their other stores.
"We believe our people are the foundation of our business and essential to our future growth, and we are making every effort to transition impacted associates to nearby Lowe's stores," Ellison added.
The stores are expected to close their doors by the end of the company's fiscal year, which is February 1, 2019. However, some locations will reportedly close immediately, so you will want to start keeping an eye out for closing sales in the coming days.
