Earlier this week, Larry and Theresa Caputo, stars of the TLC hit show Long Island Medium, announced that they were legally separating, after months of marital problems.
The couple, who had been married for 28 years and share two children, Larry Jr. and Victoria, broke the awful news to the public in a joint statement to People Magazine.
"After 28 years of marriage, we have decided to legally separate," read the statement. "We will always love each other and our two wonderful children. We are united in supporting each other and our family. Please respect our privacy during this time."
Larry and Theresa first met when the medium started working at his family's oil company as a part-time customer service representative. Although he was 11 years her senior, the pair hit it off so well that they tied the knot just two years later.
There were a few bumps at first, but Larry stood by Theresa's side as she dealt with severe anxiety attacks brought on by her rare ability to communicate with the dead. He knew that there was "something off about her," but he stuck around.
Unfortunately, their bond started to weaken over time, and Theresa opened up about it on a recent episode of the show.
"Since the last season of Long Island Medium and through a period of time, Larry and I's relationship has changed," Theresa said. "We've been there for each other, you know, through thick and thin, you know, good times, and right now are not such great times."
She then told the cameras that she and Larry were "growing apart." She continued, "I sometimes interpret it as growing apart," Theresa told the camera. "I've changed and he has changed. We're both not happy and, you know, it's hard to try to work through that."
Now, just a few days since the reality stars announced their split, Larry has opened up about the situation.
On Monday's season finale of Long Island Medium, Larry confided in a close friend about his failing marriage, admitting that he was going through a difficult time.
"I think a lot of the frustration has to do with us not spending the time together anymore,' he said. "Along with that comes the lack of communication so it's like losing your best friend. It's hard."
He also admitted that his relationship with Theresa was never perfect, and although they had a lot of ups and downs, they still managed to work it out.
"I just cared for her enough that I wasn't going to let that affect us," he said. "I wasn't going to break up with her because she has this issue. I felt like I was her anchor in those moments. It was a pattern and it wouldn't last long, I knew that, so it just a matter of getting through whatever amount of time it took her to go through that anxiety attack."
Larry and Theresa were attending therapy so they could work through their problems, but they made the decision to follow their therapist's advice and agreed to spend time apart.
"I just can't imagine our lives not together," Larry said. "I just don't know where our lives would go from there."
Sources close to the couple have previously told TMZ that there may be room for reconciliation because they are very much still in love each other. However, right now, they just need to be on their own to figure things out.
We hope they'll be able to solve their problems and save their marriage.
