Three years after marrying his second wife Diane Alexander, renowned musician Lionel Richie welcomed daughter Sofia on August 24, 1998.

As a child, Sofia remained out of the spotlight expect for a few red carpet appearances alongside her parents and famous sister Nicole.

At one point Sofia set out to follow in her father's footsteps. She started singing at the age of 5 and was on her way to master the piano by the time she was seven. She dabbled in the music industry for some time, working with her brother-in-law, singer Joel Madden.

However, she ditched her aspirations of becoming a singer due to the pressure of living up to her father's fame. Instead, she chose to pressure a career in the fashion industry and become a model.

By the age of 14, Sofia started appearing in campaigns by major brands like Chanel and Michael Kors. She signed with Select Model Management, and had features in magazines like Teen Vogue, Elle and Vanity Fair.

During her rise to fame, Sofia fraternized with the Kardashian family and befriended Kendall and Kylie Jenner.

"We all grew up the same way, so we all kind of had that understanding of everything. Just a looking-out-for-each-other kind of sense "” sisters," Sofia said in an interview with Complex magazine.

But things took and unexpected turn when the now 19-year-old started cozying up with one of the ex-boyfriend of one of the Kardashian sisters.

Back in June, Sofia was spotted hanging out and holding hands with Kourtney Kardashian's ex-partner and father of her children, Scott Disick.

The teen initially denied rumors of a possible romance, but this weekend the pair confirmed that they're officially dating through a series of posts on Instagram.

Ever since Sofia and Scott were spotted flirting in public, their relationship blossomed from platonic to romantic.

Over the last three months, the couple have tried maintaining a low profile, but they couldn't stay hidden from the lenses of the prying paparazzi.

This past weekend, while everyone was busy speculating about Kylie Jenner's pregancy, Sofia and Scott made their relationship official.

The May-December couple shared some photos of their weekend getaway.

They also posted snaps of their dinner date and it looks like they were celebrating something special, perhaps the official start of their relationship.

A source close to the couple told People that Sofia and Scott have been "inseparable."

"They're spending every day together," said the source. "Sofia seems smitten. It's obvious that she looks up to Scott "” she constantly giggles around him. They are very flirty."

However, not everyone is happy with this pairing and they have stirred up a lot of drama within their friend and family circles as well as a lot of controversy online. Beside their 15-year age gap, people are concerned that Scott is a bad influence for Sofia.

The reality star and father of three, who was in an on-again-off-again relationship with Kourtney Kardashian, has struggled with an alcohol and sex addiction for a while, and his inability to get his act together was one of the reasons that led to their breakup.

A source close to Kourtney told Us Weekly that the Kardashian finds "this fling with Sofia is a little weird, but nothing shocks her anymore."

"Kourtney just wants Scott to be his old self. She shares three kids with him, so she'll always want the best for him and will always make sure he's happy."

Neither Sofia or nor Scott have commented on their unusual relationship yet, but by the looks of it, they won't be staying silent for much longer.
