A Star Is Born and her name is Lady Gaga. Sure we all know her name already, but her latest movie is opening up the sometimes "out there" singer to a whole new audience.
Lady Gaga burst onto the scene in 2008 and at first she seemed like another over-produced, style-over-substance pop star. A lot of people probably thought she was a flash-in-the-pan. She kept getting press and producing hits, winning awards and making bizarre fashion statements (we will never forget the infamous Meat Dress).
In 2015 her image began to change for a lot of people. She was a surprise choice to sing a medley of songs from Sound of Music at the Oscars, but as soon as she opened her mouth people began to believe.
Since then she turned in many more iconic performances, but even then people weren't impressed when she was chosen to take on one of Barbra Streisand's most famous roles: Esther Hoffman from 1976's A Star Is Born.
Looks like she's proven her doubters wrong once again.
There is a tremendous amount of Oscar buzz for the remake, which is actually a remake of a remake, since the first one was done in 1937. The third time is apparently the charm because the movie is raking in cash and positive reviews. Barbra Streisand herself praised Lady Gaga in the role.
"It's very very good," she said before the film premiered.
Looks like Gaga isn't done yet, because she's now signed on to another famous Streisand role.
Rosie O'Donnell recently announced that Gaga would be starring opposite her in a Broadway revival of Funny Girl. Streisand is famous for her role as Fanny Brice in the megahit, and Gaga seems like a natural pick to bring her back to the stage.
Streisand ended up taking the role to the big screen, winning an Oscar for it in 1968.
An Instagram post from 2015 seems to have predicted this. Posing with her idol Gaga wrote: "Barbra and Me What a completely amazing woman." Finishing with the hashtag Funnygirls.
Could Lady Gaga follow the footsteps of Streisand right into the winner circle? If what we're seeing in A Star Is Born is any indication I think she has a great shot.
