We're only four days into the new year, but the social media warriors are out in full force. This time their target is Kourtney Kardashian's six-year-old daughter Penelope Disick.
The young girl and her father, Scott Disick, have been at the center of a controversy over a photo that was recently posted on Scott's Instagram account.
In the photo, which appears to have been taken at an Asian restaurant, Scott is posing beside his daughter, who is pulling her eyes, making what many perceive to be a racist gesture.
It seems like Scott did not find fault with the photo, which he captioned, "Best first date of 2019!" but the rest of the internet were not having any of it.
"Better teach your kid not to make eye thing with chopsticks," wrote one follower, while another user quipped, "Tell her to stop being racist."
"Why the F is his daughter doing that? Eating Asian food and being racist???" another commenter wrote.
When some fans came to the young girl's defense, explaining that she's just making a funny face and not trying to slant her eyes, others argued that just because Penelope is a kid, she should not get a pass.
"So it's ok to post racist photos because it's a kid doing it..." one disgruntled user chimed in.
A source close to the family have revealed to HollywoodLife that Kourtney is horrified over the comments attacking her child.
"Kourtney thinks it is absurd that people are criticizing the pic of Penelope and even suggesting that she, or Scott, is racist," the insider said. "When Kourtney saw the very cruel comments calling her daughter racist, she was blown away people were actually attacking a child."
The source added that the mother of three does not hold her ex-partner responsible for the controversy because she understands that Penelope was just making a funny face like she usually does.
"Kourtney is not upset with Scott at all either because they both know that Penelope does not have a racist bone in her body, and that she was just being playful since she sometimes acts like a complete goofball. Kourtney does not blame Scott because she knows he never would have viewed the photo that way either."
Both Kourtney and Scott have previously posted photos of their daughter making silly faces. In August, the oldest of the Kar-Jenner sisters shared a photo of Penelope while they were out on a lunch date.
Neither Scott nor Kourtney have commented on the issue, but having dealt with all sorts of social media backlash in the past, they both know that this too shall pass.
