Kim Kardashian is no stranger to unsolicited online criticism, and most of the time, she looks the other way until the scrutiny dies down.
However, the reality star and mom-of-three has recently decided to address an incident that has caused some people on the internet to insinuate that she is a bad mom.
Kim found herself in a middle of a controversy when a photo of her daughter wearing a new hairstyle was posted all over social media.
So what was it about the photo that people were angry about? Five-year-old North West, who has naturally curly hair, was photographed with a straight 'do styled in a high ponytail.
Kim has always been vocal about embracing her daughter's curly hair, and even talked about how much her daughter loves her hair during a chat with Interview magazine.
"She's obsessed with her curly hair, and if she finds someone who has the same hair, she runs to them and is like, 'You have curly hair like me?' And we get to talk about it," the doting mother revealed.
So when the new shots of North's slick and straight hair surfaced, some people questioned whether or not Kim still encourages her daughter to accept her natural hair.
Of course, since we're living in the age of social media, it didn't take long for concerned fans to start commenting on North's hair.
"Dear Kim, I love little North and I am worried straightening her hair will ruin her curl, I too have curls my mum never let me straighten it when I was young and I hated it but my curl is still so bouncy and gorgeous because I didn't to it until I was much older please don't straighten it anymore," wrote an Instagram user.
Another chimed in writing, "You already making that little girl hate her curls! So sad that people think only straight hair is beautiful. This is what's wrong, y'all want mixed kids but don't want to learn how to manage or take care of their curls. So disappointing and disgusting. But can't expect much from someone who values the internet more than her integrity."
Annoyed and angry fans also expressed their feelings about Kim's child's 'do on Twitter, many claiming that the heat probably damaged her curls.
There were a couple of people who wondered if North was wearing extensions because her hair was noticeably longer (Do people not realize that curly hair gets much longer when straightened?).
However, Kim wasn't going to let her shamers get away without explaining why she let her daughter switch up her hairstyle. She addressed the controversy in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter back in June.
She wanted straight hair and I straightened her hair one time, she explained. It's funny, because online everyone thought that we pressed it and did this whole thing. It was just a flat iron.
I even read that she had extensions on! She has curly hair, so when you straighten her hair, it's gonna look really long. I can't believe people didn't get that. Sometimes you just have to tune it out! It was her birthday and all she wanted was to try to have her hair straightened.
Kim added that she only let North experiment with a new hairstyle because it was her birthday and they were taking a trip to New York City.
She continued, "You know, I'm not gonna let her straighten her hair all the time, but if she wants it that way two or three days a year, then that's fine with me. She loved it, but she loves her curly hair, too.
Of course, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star had a professional handle her daughter's hair. So those who were worried about damage can rest easy.
"Chris [Appleton], who does my hair, braided the front of her hair and put it up in a ponytail and she absolutely loved it," Kim said. "She loved getting pampered."
There you have it, mom-shamers. At the end of the day, North is Kim's child, and the hairstyle she wears is between her and her mom. Kim, like any other mom, doesn't owe it to anyone to explain her parenting choices.
