For plenty of women, becoming a mother is one of the most rewarding experiences one can have. Before they're even born, you've already laid out your hopes and dreams for your child, along with wishing for your preferred gender.
While some women have preferences on what the sex of their newborn will be, once they find out, a soon-to-be mother should be elated either way.
However, for Khloe Kardashian, it took her a little while longer to accept the fact that she would be welcoming a baby girl, instead of the son she was hoping for.
"I wanted a boy so badly."
As seen on one episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Khloe openly admitted she was hoping for a boy.
In the clip, Khloe's younger sister, Kylie Jenner, found out True's gender ahead of time, and tasked with telling the Good American founder the news.
"I'm really hoping Kylie's gonna say she's lying and like I'm really having a boy," Khloe told her mother, Kris Jenner.
But it was later revealed Khloe was carrying a girl, which stunned the soon-to-be mom.
"When you have your mind made up as to what you're having... everyone told me you're going to feel what you're having and you'll just kind of know," she explained. "And then when you find out it's the complete opposite, it's just a shock."
"I just was convinced that I was having a boy, so to be having a girl it's just like, 'Okay that wasn't what I thought was going on,'" the reality star continued.
Although Khloe and baby True are now inseparable, she took to Twitter and clarified why she "wanted a boy so badly."
"I wanted a boy so badly Because Mason and I are so close. I love our bond," Kardashian wrote about her nephew. "I felt confident in having a boy but God blessed me with my precious True and now I wouldn't know what to do with a boy."
"True has made me sweeter and more gentle. God gives you what you need," the new mother said, adding that her three-month-old daughter is "My BFF 4Life."
While some people are shocked that she would make such an admission after her daughter's birth, this isn't the first time Khloe has caused controversy.
"Mommy shamers [are] at a high right now."
As seen on the show, Khloe is known for her outspoken honesty and becoming a new mother hasn't changed that.
However, Khloe's honesty has brought on her fair share of mommy shamers, but she isn't afraid to set them straight.
On June 29, Khloe and her sister, Kim Kardashian, attended the If Only Texas Hold'Em Poker Tournament at The Forum in Inglewood, California, to raise money for cancer research.
Fans gave the new mom plenty of flack for appearing at a public event instead of staying home with her daughter, but in true Khloe fashion, she told them where to stick it.
"Mommy shamers [are] at a high right now. I'm sick, at a charity event & I'm getting slack [for] being here [because] I have a baby? Her dad is watching her while I'm trying [to] bring awareness [to an] amazing organization," she wrote on Twitter.
"But either way, what's wrong w a new mom letting daddy take over [for a] few hours?" she added.
Several members of the public agreed with Khloe's tweet, and commended her for standing up for herself.
"Women just cannot win - shamed for not wanting kids, shamed for having them and going back to work, shamed for having them and staying at home. We're always damned if we do and damned if we don't. And it's usually other women doing the shaming! 😡" one Twitter user wrote.
"Some people feel important when they criticize someone else. Do what you know is right and have peace about it. If they get all twisted up, they are the problem," another person tweeted.
"I agree! That's why you learn to just 'do you.' Because you're never gonna please everyone. So love your baby, and raise her the way you value.. and just try and ignore the opinions!" a fellow social media user chimed in.
Khloe had previously opened up about her anxiety on going back to work while leaving True at home.
"Going back to work after having True has definitely caused me a little anxiety. The days leading up to my first day back were tough, but once I started going through the motions, everything fell into place. It's like riding a bike!" she wrote on her app.
"On my first day back, True was perfect while I was gone. Plus, coming home was soooo much fun "“ I acted like I hadn't seen her in forever," Khloe continued.
"I know I'll be OK. I have to remind myself that she's in the best possible hands. It's way harder on me than it is for her, LOL "“ she doesn't even know what's happening," she added.
"I've never had to juggle a baby and work at the same time, so it'll be interesting to see how I'll learn to handle everything," she concluded.
