From time to time, we're all guilty of judging people before we know their whole story.
I know I am.
When news broke last year that Khloe Kardashian was pregnant, but the reality star was waiting to make an announcement, I assumed (like a lot of people) that she was waiting to build up publicity for her TV show.
Now, a new episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians reveals the ugly truth behind Khloe's secretive behavior.
The Announcement
As early as last September, websites were speculating that Khloe and her NBA player boyfriend Tristan Thomas were expecting their first child.
But Khloe didn't make an official pregnancy announcement until December 20, when she posted a photo of her baby bump on Instagram.
"My greatest dream realized! We are having a baby!" she wrote.
"I had been waiting and wondering but God had a plan all along. He knew what He was doing. I simply had to trust in Him and be patient."
Why the Delay
Khloe also took time to address the rumors about why she kept the pregnancy so hush-hush.
"I know we've been keeping this quiet but we wanted to enjoy this between our family and close friends as long as we could privately. To enjoy our first precious moments just us â¤ï¸."
When she appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show the next month, Khloe said she had been waiting to have a baby "for so long," but didn't share any more details about her pregnancy.
Now, a new episode of her reality show reveals the private struggle that delayed Khloe's announcement.
Private Struggle
The latest episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians revealed that Khloe kept her pregnancy under wraps while she was concerned about having a miscarriage.
The reality star explained that she chose to wait until her first trimester was over, when she felt "safe" to share the news publicly.
In a personal chat with her sister Kourtney, Khloe revealed that her body doesn't naturally produce enough of the hormone progesterone.
Progesterone stabilizes the lining of the uterus, which is crucial during pregnancy.
Treating her condition required Khloe to take vaginal progesterone supplements twice a day. But while the treatment took a toll on her, Khloe's doctor said that the supplements "saved" her pregnancy.
Invasion of Privacy
The expectant mom also complained about entertainment websites like TMZ trying to break the news of her pregnancy before she was ready.
"I'm just mad because there's so many risks involved when you're newly pregnant," she said on the episode.
"If the doctor is telling me not to announce anything until a specific time then I respect that. I hate that everyone is prying and so nosy. It's super frustrating."
A reminder for all of us from a mom-to-be: you never know what someone else is dealing with!
