It's been a rough week for Katharine McPhee.
Just on the heels of her engagement to music producer David Foster, 68, McPhee revealed her beloved father had passed away.
On July 14, the 34-year-old told her fans on Instagram that she wouldn't be appearing in her Broadway show, Waitress, that weekend due to a family emergency.
It was later discovered the plight involved her father, David McPhee, who had died. The American Idol alum took to social media and wrote a touching tribute to her dad.
"I can't believe I'm even writing this," she wrote on Instagram. "But it is with heavy heart that I share that my sweet sweet Papa left this earth yesterday morning. We as a family are completely heartbroken and devastated. He was my biggest fan, my biggest champion, always telling me to "˜Give em hell kid!'"
"He was so kind and caring and made sure we knew how much he loved us. Not sure my heart will ever be the same," McPhee added.
But, before McPhee's father passed away, she said she was able to show him her stunning engagement ring, which she also posted a picture of on Instagram.
"It's been a hard week. Lots of tears but I want to thank my friends and family for all the love and support. My dad was so happy for me. My ring was the last thing I showed my dad before he passed and makes me smile when I look at this as a reminder of our last conversation," McPhee wrote.
She continued, "And now I'm ready to share with all of you what has been my sunshine amongst this painful loss. My love wisely said to me the other day that "death is the only thing that is 100 percent inevitable and the thing we are least prepared for." So today we're celebrating life and not forgetting love."
While McPhee didn't discuss the specific details of her newest piece of bling, we definitely know it's a sparkler most people will be able to spot from a mile away.
McPhee and Foster first sparked dating rumors in May 2017, but only confirmed their relationship this year while at the Met Gala.
She later confirmed their engagement earlier this month on Instagram, where she shared that her soon-to-be husband had popped the question while the pair were in Italy.
"He did it at the top of this mountain in Anacapri. Totally dark, only stars. Thankfully he didn't push me off the cliff," the songstress told Jared Eng of celebrity news website, Just Jared. "He said it was one or the other. And in the end he spared me."
This will be the fifth marriage for the father-of-seven, and McPhee's second. She was previously married to director Nick Cokas.
