Kim Kardashian-West is lending her words of support to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. The ultra-famous reality TV star say down with The Sunday Project, an Australian news outlet, and was asked about her feelings towards the royal couple and their constant media criticism.
“I’m wondering if you feel some sympathy for what Harry and Meghan are going through?” host Lisa Wilkinson asked Kardashian.
“I think everyone has their own journey,” Kardashian replied. “I think their journey is extremely personal, with – you know, what his mother experienced and how her life was so affected by the spotlight and by paparazzi."
Kardashian knows the life of paparazzi well, as she can never really go anywhere without her photo being snapped. Despite sharing that kind of attention, Kardashian admits she can't really put herself in Markle's shoes.
“I don’t think anyone can really understand what that’s like except for them. But I think as I’m older and as I have kids, what I would want for them is just the safest place,” the mom of four said. “I can definitely empathize with their need for having a secure, safe place and taking time for themselves and having privacy when they need it.”
Privacy is something the royal couple has been struggling to find since announcing their relationship. Harry and Meghan are currently in the middle of a lawsuit with British tabloids after personal letters of Meghan's were published.
“We have initiated legal proceedings against the Mail on Sunday, and its parent company Associated Newspapers, over the intrusive and unlawful publication of a private letter written by the Duchess of Sussex, which is part of a campaign by this media group to publish false and deliberately derogatory stories about her, as well as her husband," said a spokesperson from Schillings, who are representing the Duchess. "Given the refusal of Associated Newspapers to resolve this issue satisfactorily, we have issued proceedings to redress this breach of privacy, infringement of copyright and the aforementioned media agenda”.
Markle was also candid about her struggles as a new mom and wife in a recent documentary.
“Any woman, especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable, and so that was made really challenging. And then when you have a newborn, you know. And especially as a woman, it’s a lot,” she said. “So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed. It’s um…yeah. I guess, thank you for asking because not a lot of people have asked if I’m okay, but it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”
The interviewer asked if it “would be fair” to say that she’s “not really okay, as in it’s really been a struggle?” to which Meghan responded, “Yes.”
Hopefully Harry and Meghan will be able to spend some quality time together this holiday season. It was announced that the couple, along with baby Archie, would not be spending Christmas with the royal family this year.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement. “Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria Ragland. This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.”
Being monitored constantly by the media is nothing new to the Kardashians, but for Meghan and Harry, it's becoming a very real part of their life.
