In 2015, after a long battle with social and educational development, Kate Gosselin of Jon and Kate Plus 8 fame, made the drastic decision to send Collin, one of her sextuplets, away to receive treatment for his "special needs."

"This is a work in progress for him that we've sought many specialists help on," Kate confessed on a 2016 episode of Kate Plus 8. "There are changes coming for him. I think it will result in a change of school for him for this upcoming year and beyond that, we'll see."

She added, "This has been a struggle we've had for a very long time, and it's one I've dealt with on my own. I've felt very alone in this. By the same token, it's not something that has only impacted me or him "” our entire family has been impacted."

Longtime fans of the family applauded Kate for taking the necessary steps to help her child and opening up about it so publicly, however, things took a turn when it was later revealed that the mom of eight made the big decision without informing her ex-husband, Jon Gosselin.  

Over the next couple of months, different accounts of Collin's situation were shared by his mother, father, and sources close to the family.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jon admitted that he had no idea where his son was.

"I have an idea where he is but I don't really know where he is," Jon told the news outlet. He said that Kate told him Collin was at a school for children with special needs, however, he claimed that law enforcement officials have told him otherwise.

Over the last two years, Collin has been noticeably absent from the reality show and family photos posted on social media by Kate. Some people even accused the mom of neglecting her son and forgetting about him on special occasions and holidays.

However, in a surprising move earlier this year, Jon posted the first photo of Collin in three years.

In the Instagram snap, the controversial father is seen posing with his son and daughter Hannah as they celebrate their 14th birthday.

"Glad I could celebrate my son Collin's 14th birthday with him and his sister!" Jon wrote in the caption.

Many of Jon's followers were quick to comment on the photos, showing support for Collin's struggle and praising the father for spending time with his son.

"Well I'm just glad that one parent spent his birthday with him and didn't forget about him," wrote one fan. "Always praying for Collin and hopefully he gets to come home soon."

Another chimed in, "Omg this makes me so happy!!! Seeing you three together makes me want to cry tears of joy."

Now, the proud father is giving us another glimpse of Collin in his latest Instagram post.

Like the last photo, Jon, Collin and Hannah smiled big for the camera as they posed side-by-side in front of their home.

"Had a good weekend visit with Collin at home!" Jon wrote in the caption.

Despite the nasty, long-drawn custody battle between Jon and Kate, it seems like things have finally calmed down and the pair are doing their best to co-parent their children, including the rest of the sextuplets Alexis, Aaden, Leah, and Joel, as well as their older twin sisters Mady and Cara, 18.
