It's no secret that the Duggar family is conservative. The family's whole brand is their modesty and seclusion. Every child is homeschooled, there's a literal survey to fill out before boys are allowed to court any of the Duggar daughters, and the rules the kids have to follow are pretty insane.
One of the biggest rules the family follows is "no watching TV." It seems wild that a family who really makes their living by being TV stars won't let their kids watch it, but I guess to each their own, right?
According to Jim Bob Duggar, there's a good reason they don't watch it.
"I grew up watching TV, but when we got married a doctor friend of ours encouraged us not to have a pet or a TV the first year of marriage. So we did that. For the first year we lived on love," Jim Bob explained. "And after that someone gave us a TV and for the first three weeks we were both glued to it."
"Communications dropped off, we weren't talking as much, and we couldn't believe the content on TV we didn't think was appropriate," he continued. "We prayed about it and felt we had to pull it out of our house, which we did. And I would say that is one of the best things we have done for our family."
That's not to say they don't watch anything though.
"We are very selective about what we watch," the dad Duggar explained. "We actually don't watch broadcast TV."
And while all the Duggar kids are required to follow the rules of the house while they're living at home, it's become increasingly clear that when they get married, things change. This is especially clear for Jinger Duggar, who is often considered the "rebel child." Jinger was the first Duggar daughter to wear pants (pants!!!) and moved from Arkansas to Texas after getting married to Jeremy Vuolo.
Jinger and Jeremy also waited a long time to have kids after their marriage, or at least long in Duggar Land, though they did welcome little Felicity Vuolo to the world on July 19. The couple has been active on social media, sharing their journey of parenthood, but one post caught our attention in particular, except it wasn't from either of them.
Jinger's friend Adelyn shared photos of Jinger, herself, and Felicity and captioned it with something that caught the attention of fans.
"I'm so grateful for the weekend with these friends...so thankful for every moment from deep discussions to being mesmerized over @thecrownnetflix together!"
That's right, apparently Jinger watches The Crown, which I can guarantee you is NOT Jim Bob Duggar approved. The show is heavy on the sex scenes, drama, swearing, divorce, and affairs, none of which fall under the modesty clause of the Duggar lifestyle.
Of course, Jinger is her own person, and she can do whatever she wants, but I'm still confused. Is this not the same woman who spent her entire childhood (and a few years of her adult life) living under the strict rules of her family? How soon after getting married did she get her own Netflix account? Did she lose all her values and beliefs when she moved away from home?
So many questions...so few answers.
