"Margaritaville" crooner Jimmy Buffett may no longer be at the top of the charts, but he sure does know how to keep his name in the headlines.
The Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter was recently bestowed with the honor to perform the national anthem at the iconic Superdome before the NFC Championship Game between the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams.
Buffett gave an a capella rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner," but it was the mic drop he confidently delivered at the end of the song that had so many people even more riled up.
While some people loved everything about Buffett's performance, the longtime Saints fan also left a lot of people feeling unimpressed.
Some people argued that Buffett's mic drop was him poking fun of himself, but there were others who wondered whether or not he did it to express his "disappointment in the state of affairs within our government."
Unfortunately, even Buffett's enthusiastic mic drop couldn't keep the Saints from losing the game, costing them a spot in the Super Bowl.
It'll be the Rams competing against the New England Patriots for the coveted Vince Lombardi trophy at the 53rd Super Bowl on February 3.
For a big event, Gladys Knight has been tapped to perform the national anthem, and the halftime show will feature Maroon 5, Big Boi, and rapper Travis Scott. This year, the NFL, along with Scott, will donate $500,000 to DreamCorps, a non-profit social justice organization.
